Braces

What Do They Do?

Functional appliances all have a similar purpose: to help your jaws develop normally and help you achieve facial balance.

Why is Treatment Important?

Crowded, crooked, or protruding teeth are more difficult to clean thoroughly and are vulnerable to gum disease. They can also lead to problems with bite and jaw alignment. We offer removable or functional-orthopedic appliances because children are usually much more cooperative in wearing them than with more permanent fixed solutions.

Treatment is also important because...
  • The need for extractions of permanent teeth, which may result in undesirable profile and lip positions, is lessened.
  • The bone cell activity, which allows teeth to be moved easily and jaw positions to be changed, is very high during the mixed dentition growth period of childhood.
  • The spaces in the dental ridges needed for permanent teeth can be expanded and saved so remaining teeth can erupt properly.
  • Children can achieve a nicer smile, an improved facial profile, and a better self-image during these critical grade school years.
Note: Even if first stage treatment is performed during mixed dentition, nearly always there will be a need for teenage orthodontic treatment utilizing fixed bands/bonded appliances.

Orthodontics Are Beautiful!

Today, orthodontics come in many different styles. Options include transparent, tooth-colored, multi-colored, or gold.

Who Benefits?

Everyone wants a beautiful smile - and everyone should have a healthy one. The orthodontist's goal is to achieve both for the patient.
